This course is for those who have experience in digital and traditional animation and want expert guidance in developing an animation project at a more professional level. This intensive practical course is ideally suited to you if you have an animation project in mind and want to learn professional skills and processes from client based animatics and character design through to producing your animated film and making it available for festivals and screenings.

About this course

Be able to pitch your idea effectively
Develop your animation idea into an effective narrative
Be aware of professional digital animation workflow
Develop professional digital and traditional animation skills relevant to your animation project
Research, commission, record and edit sound effectively
Understand what formats and codecs to use throughout different production stages.

Our DSLR cameras and the latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.).

Course programme

- pitching, scripting, storyboards, animatics and schedules
- advanced digital and traditional techniques relevant to your personal projects
- working with sound
- exporting work, formats and codecs
- distribution, marketing and publicity.

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. You will be expected to do some work on developing your project outside the class in preparation for your workshops. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Animation, Cartooning, Digital arts, Film, Graphics, Illustration, Photography and Web design.

You can further develop your skills and interest in Animation through a range of courses at the City Lit in animation, cartooning, illustration, graphic design and digital film and editing courses. You can also enhance your work through a range of sound design courses at City Lit.
