This qualification is aimed at 17+ learners who want to pursue a career in Teaching and Sports Coaching. The new Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education and School Sport is designed to provide a vocational pathway into the provision of Children’s Physical Activity and School Sport delivery and development. Those who complete this Advanced Apprenticeship will be suitably qualified with the knowledge, understanding and competency to deliver, plan, organise and assess the learning of children in a range of environments including the community and schools.

Course programme
This Level 3 programme is particularly useful if you have previously completed the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership and/or have undertaken coaching qualifications and you are looking to progress accordingly to a physical activity or school sports role.
In addition, you will be taught by professionals that currently work within the Teaching and Coaching Industries with a strong link to varied individual and team sports, particularly Physical Education. Our staff have extensive knowledge of both the practical and theoretical aspects surrounding the enhanced developments in line with sports curriculums in education. They also carry comprehensive backgrounds with experience in professional sports performance whether in participation or coaching delivery.
Within the Level 3 NVQ Diploma, candidates will undertake 12 mandatory units which include:
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Schools as organisations
- Understand Child and Young Person Development
- Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people.
- Support assessment for learning
- Plan, deliver and review physical education and school sport programme
- Organise and lead a sports event or competition
- Preparing for the mentoring role
- Support gifted and talented learners
- Facilitate community-based sport and physical activity.
Assessment tasks within the Level 3 NVQ Diploma will consist of professional discussion, physical work-based observations, tasks and written portfolio tasks
As a student of Oldham College you will have full use of all the college facilities; including a fully equipped gym and sports arena. Students will also have access to the facilities of our partnership companies during their training and employment.
Combined Knowledge and Competence Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in PE and School Sport.
Level 2 Functional Skills – Maths and English (unless already accredited)
Potential Added Value Qualifications such as Coaching Qualifications at Level 1 progressing to Level 2.
