Course programme

Course review:

Designed as a follow-on from the beginners course, this class takes students a stage further into making decorative corsets that have an additional outer layer.

The difference between the Beginners and the Advanced course:

In the beginners course you have built up a pattern to your own measurement and made a one-layer plain corset. In the advanced course you can adjust your pattern to a further customised unique shape and then work on it to create a luxury corset. You will be focusing on the special techniques of constructing a two-layer corset with two different fabrics. Many students choose to bring satin, taffetas, silk, brocade, lace overlay and retro fabric to give the corset a couture touch.

Things you need to bring with you:

  • sharp scissors
  • notebook
  • pencils
  • rubber/erasor
  • thimble
  • fabrics that you wish to use for both layers. Please click the Useful Links to view the supplier list about where to source leather or fabric
  • one reel each of polyester and cotton thread that match the colour of your fabrics
  • headed pins and hand sewing needles
