About this course

Students must be aged 18 or older and hold a current recognized gym level 2 qualification. A current CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certificate is also required.

Leading to a Central YMCA Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Instructing Gym

The Advanced Fitness Instructor module is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to plan a variety of progressive cardiovascular and resistance programmes and determine the appropriate levels of frequency, intensity, speed, duration and type of activities to meet fitness needs and goals. The module consists of the three sub components Exercise and Fitness Knowledge, Advanced Resistance Programming and Advanced Cardiovascular Programming.

Course Format

The Advanced Fitness Instructor module can be studied full time as part of the Personal Trainer Diploma.

OR

The Advanced Fitness Instructor module can be studied as a blended distance-learning program. After studying the Exercise and Fitness Knowledge element of the course via the home study workbooks, students are required to attend workshops over 6 days, plus an additional 1 day final assessment approximately 3 weeks later. It will be necessary to bring a friend/colleague along to the final assessment day to act as a participant.

Assessment
  • Complete a theory paper (taken during workshops)
  • Case study and verbal assessment
  • Practical assessment (plan, teach and evaluate a session)
