Nick Pyall
Course Tutor
Nick Pyall builds guitars using hand tools. He specializes in instruments inspired by Viennese guitars of the early and mid-nineteenth century, including those with extra bass strings, and the mid-twentieth-century guitars of the North American 'golden era' of acoustic guitar making. Nick is also a player and teacher of the guitar. In recent years his passion for the instrument has led to him studying its development and societal history. His previous teaching posts include being a senior lecturer in guitar making and the course leader for the Musical Instruments BSc at The Cass.
Course programme
This short course follows a tried and tested programme that has been used for more than 30 years with great success. The evening course runs in blocks of 10 weeks and is designed to allow participants to build on the skills needed to build guitars. This course aims to help you to:
- refine the skills and techniques already acquired through the introductory and intermediateclasses
- independently use these skills, under tutorial guidance, to develop and finish your project
- build upon previous knowledge
