Who is this course for?
This course is designed for guitarists anyone who wishes to advance their knowledge of the basic elements of guitar playing in the Blues, Country and Jazz Genres.
What previous knowledge/experience are required?
Yub should have completed the Guitar - Blues, Country and Jazz course or have equivalent knowledge and experience. You should know basic chords, strumming techniques and riffs. You should have some knowledge of the overall musical framework in which chords and chord sequences fit.
What is the level of the course?
This is an intermediate level course
What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Students will undertake further study of harmonised scales, modes, and altered chords. You will explore the use of jazz chord shapes and inversions in the context of playing from chord charts. There will further study of blues and country forms including the use of modulation and soloing techniques.
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Group performances, individual practice, demonstrations and listening.
How will we assess your progress on the course?
There will be continuous assessment by the tutor.
What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
This course leads to a Working Men's College Certificate.
What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
At least 4hrs per week
What can I do after completing this course?
Students can progress to Learning to Play the Blues classes Students who are sufficiently motivated may apply for the Access to HE Diploma - Music course
Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
You will need to bring a six string guitar. You will need a notebook, pen, pencil and eraser.
Are there any other requirements?
You are required to attend every lesson on time.
