Making an Impact In Interviews

An interview course on how to connect with interviewers and make their decisions easy

The overly gloomy media reports make companies cautious, recruitment has slowed significantly and things are certainly less predictable than they were.
However some things about the recruitment process remain contsant and reliable.

This course is designed to give delegates the skills to really take advantage of two of those constants:

1. Most Interviewees Prepare Poorly: probably fewer than 25% of interviewees prepare well, which leaves an opportunity for those who do know how to prepare, to really shine.

2. Interviews Don’t Work: 80% or more of companies still find it difficult to make confident decisions even after second interviews.
Applicants who understand the hidden dynamics of decision making can take advantage and shine at interview.
What you will get on this course: We will cover the fundamentals, the essential resources and skills you need but we want to take you a step further - what will make you most attractive of all to a hiring organisation.
The Essential Basics Recruitment is a process and in order to navigate through that process successfully you need certain tools at your disposal.
In a very general nutshell you need to differentiate yourself from other applicants by having: The ability to find more jobs to apply for A better CV, and the skill to tailor it to each role in question A knowledge of the company and the role for which you are interviewing An more intimate knowledge of yourself and your motivations An ability to answer even the most difficult questions credibly and confidently We will focus on ensuring that by the end of day two you know how to access and develop these essential tools and skills.
However the reason this course is two days rather than one is that it is different, our emphasis is on what will give you a real edge over other applicants.
The Difference That Makes The Difference Companies can comfortably ascertain who has the relevant technical background and who doesn't - simply ask the right questions and listen.
The difficulty arises when they are trying to assess the personal fit, they are asking themselves questions like: "What is this person really like when they're working ?" "Can we trust this person ?" "Do they really mean what they say or is this just someone who interviews well ?" "Are they just using this opportunity as an interim stepping stone ?" "Will they fit in with the existing team ?" "What's really most important to them about work ?" These questions cannot be answered in a conventional interview process, so interviewers are always left with a dilemma.
The question a switched on interviewee asks themselves is: "How do I solve this dilemma and come out looking best ?" At 80:20 Perfoprmance Soutions, with over a decade of career coaching and project managing recruitment camapigns for our clients, we believe the answer is simple: connect with the interviewers.
Making The Right Connection This is not about being perceived as 'nice' or 'professional' or 'confident' it isn't about any one thing.
It's about adapting your communication and behaviour to do whatever it takes to connect with whoever is in front of you - it's about being a great communicator.
This requires certain skills: Managing Your Own State: all of your behaviours are a function of your mental state in interview.
If you get this right your behaviour will support you, get it wrong and your behvaiour will let you down.
Elegantly Recognising and Handling Objections: the interview process has an aspect of selling yourself.
Overcoming objections is a delicate process that needs to be done well.
Using Non Verbal Communication: communication happens on numerous channels simultaneously.
A lot of the 'connection' you can make in an interview is not through the content but instead relies on things like your voice tone, getsures, facial expression, eye contact and even your breathing.
Developing Rapport and Credibility: rapport is a fantastic tool for facilitating effective communication and making a lasting impression.
In an interview it is essential that rapport is supported by knowledge of content and a credible communication style too.
Advanced Sensory Acuity: being effective at communicating is all about the responses we elicit.
If you are not able to recognise what non verbal responses you get when you communicate then you are just making noise with your mouth and the rest is pure luck.
On this workshop delegates will go through some intensive drills designed to teach them all of the above skills.
With a little practice these skills will become second nature.
How is This Workshop Delivered ? The emphasis of all of our workshops is on developing practical skills that delegates can use.
In this instance skills that will enable you to construct better applications and interview at your very best.
Many people confuse intellectual understanding with the ability to do something but the application of the understanding is the real skill.
For this reason we offer the intellectual content but we focus principally on developing skills through practical exercises.
Who Is This Workshop For ? This workshop is for anyone who wants to more choice in the employment market: The Single Biggest Differentiator - Connecting With The Interviewers: communicate in such a way that the interviewer can relax when making a decision about who you are as a person.
