" Advanced Professional Practice in Social Work MA OVERVIEW

Coventry University has revised and developed the provision of post-qualifying modules to respond to the shift in focus spelled out by the Social Work Reform Board in its paper on a framework for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). We offer flexible programmes at Masters level, in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) and other career development needs which we have identified and designed in partnership with employers.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

The Social Work Reform Board sees that fully equipping social workers for their roles requires them to have ""space for critical reflection, learning from others and opportunities for access to research""*. This also fits with the perspective on CPD taken by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) whose approach “rests on self-evaluation by the individual social worker, with an audit of the evidence”*

(From July 2012 the HCPC (formerly Health Professions Council) is responsible for the registration of Social Workers)

We have created flexibility by offering almost all of the taught modules stand-alone modules. This means that you and/or your employer need only commit to one module at a time, but when the time is right, you can enrol for one of the awards detailed in this leaflet. Our modules and awards have been designed to link with the levels of the PCF from Social Worker up to Advanced Practitioner and to the Practice Educator Standards.

We are also offering flexibility in planning more than one delivery of the modules per academic year, subject to demand. We work closely with employers and appreciate the demands not only on students who work in demanding professional roles but also on employers in managing the release of staff.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

To achieve the MA, you will build upon your theoretical and practical knowledge skills in Social Work. The focus is to develop skills that you will acquire during the diploma level and further develop your critical thinking and other high level skills.
