Advanced Spanish (Stage 3)

OCN 3

Courses A and B

We run two short courses at Advanced level

Course A runs for 11 weeks in the evening in the autumn term.

Course B runs for 11 weeks in the evening in the spring term.

Level of Spanish needed to begin course

Course A - Leisure and Lifestyles
This course is designed for those who have a level of proficiency in the language equivalent to NOCN 2 or GCSE.

Course B - Contemporary Society
This course assumes you have a level of prior knowledge equivalent to OCN 3 Course A.

Course Content

Course A
This course develops speaking, listening and writing skills , while considering topics related to the theme of leisure and lifestyles. Typically these would include the regions of Spain and places of cultural interest, tourism, fiestas, food and drink, cinema and sports.

Course B
This course develops speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, while considering topics related to the theme of contemporary society. Typically these would include celebrities, health issues (smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc), problems (terrorism, ETA, the Madrid bombings), social unrest, immigration, politics and current affairs. On a lighter note the group may opt to read some literature in the form of short stories or extracts from modern novels.

Assessment

Course A
You hand in samples of work done during the course and complete relevant paperwork for external moderation. The OCN (Open College Network) Level 3 Certificate (Spain: Leisure and Lifestyles) is awarded to everyone who completes the course successfully.

Course B
You hand in samples of work done during the course and complete relevant paperwork for external moderation. The OCN (Open College Network) Level 3 Certificate (Spain: Contemporary Society) is awarded to everyone who completes the course successfully.

Materials Needed
Course material will be provided. There is normally a small charge for photocopying.
