Course Overview
This programme is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to gain practical work experience while working towards a recognised qualification.
Course Structure
The programme is delivered over one year, with attendance at College and a local venue. Work placement is also an essential part of the course and will be up to 2 days a week.
Students must complete a series of units in order to achieve this qualification. Each unit has a credit value and the amount of credits achieved determines either an award certificate or diploma.
Students will acquire underpinning knowledge and practical experience at a local venue and will also be expected to complete up to two days work experience. Placements could be at a farm, catteries, kennels, pet shops or sanctuaries.
Students will also be expected to undertake qualifications in literacy, numeracy, ICT, first aid and personal development.

City & Guilds/NPTC Level 1 Certificate in Land Based Animal Care
Assessments/Examinations
Students will be observed and assessed on practical work undertaken while on placement to ensure that they are competent within the workplace.
A portfolio must be compiled and students are expected to gain evidence for their portfolios from a variety of sources.
Animal Care is achieved by portfolio completion, other qualifications achieved by portfolio or formal exam

Tuition is free to under 18 years of age, but there are additional costs:

- £102.50 Registration/certification (Registration and certification is free for students under 19 years)
Students will need to provide suitable protective footwear and waterproof clothing for the farm placement. It is essential that all candidates have a current Tetanus inoculation for health and safety requirements. Students will also need to provide suitable stationery for all theory lessons including pen, paper & folders etc.
