What type of work will I do and what qualifications will I gain?

Although apprenticeships will vary depending on your entry level and your employer, you will gain a range of skills from the varying tasks you complete, these could include:
  • Assessing and planning grooming work
  • Styling different breeds of dogs
  • Bathing and drying dogs
  • Clipping and scissoring techniques
  • Promote and maintain animal health and behaviour
  • Handling and restraint
  • Health and safety, bio security and good housekeeping
  • Customer care
You will also gain the following qualifications:
  • Competence and Knowledge Qualification - Level 3 Diploma in Animal Care (Dog Grooming) (City & Guilds)
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
  • If you haven't already achieved a grade C or above in English and maths, you will also undertake a level 2 functional skills qualification in English and/or maths.

Additional information

As an apprentice, you will be assigned an assessor, who will visit you in the workplace to observe the tasks you complete. You will also complete a number of relevant work-related modules at the College. All of which will contribute to the overall success of your apprenticeship.
