2. Course description If you'd like to focus more on the research-based elements of animal care and management, then this BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma could be a great place to start. You'll spend the first year studying the Foundation Diploma in Animal Management (link to course detail), before continuing with more relevant science units for your second year. You'll look at animal breeding and genetics, and learn all about the principles of animal nursing. You'll be undertaking an investigative research project into a subject area of your choice, as well as studying the metabolisms of various animals and focusing on advanced nutrition. Whether you're learning about the health and husbandry of more zoological animals or taking a closer look at wildlife ecology and conservation management, you'll be developing all the practical skills you'll need to continue your studies into animal science and pursue a career in this industry.

Entry requirements As with the BTEC Level 3 in Animal Management you'll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language, Maths and Science, or a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care with a grade of Merit or above. You'll also need to complete a work placement in the industry before starting the course. To continue onto the second year of this course, you'll need to successfully complete the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Animal Management, usually with a an overall grade of Merit or Distinction. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method For both years of the course, there is a mixture of external written exams and internal assessments. The internal assessments will be a combination of practical assignments and written work.
