Entry requirements
Candidates should normally hold an IBMS accredited first degree in Biomedical Science at Honours level or equivalent. Applications are also welcome from candidates with non-standard qualifications who have significant relevant experience; each case will be considered on its merits and applicants should contact the course Admissions Tutor. Applicants should normally be HPC-registered, practicing Biomedical Scientists currently working in a UKAS accredited NHS laboratory.

Programme outline and modules
An MSc in BMS is an educational qualification that allows Biomedical Scientists to progress their careers within the NHS or equivalent pathology services.
In addition, an MSc in BMS is one criteria required by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) for; admittance to its Fellowship grade of membership (FIBMS), access to professional body membership as a Chartered Scientist and for entry to the Higher Specialist Diploma examination.
The MSc offered at Aston University provides an advanced course in Biomedical Science and has been developed through collaboration with local NHS Trusts and guidance from the IBMS.
Learning, teaching & assessment
Programme Delivery
The course utilises a range of teaching strategies including lectures, case studies and distance learning options combined with research to deepen knowledge and understanding of Biomedical Science. The programme is delivered by both academic staff and HPC-registered discipline-specific Biomedical Scientists.
Assessment methods
The modules are assessed through a variety of techniques including written examination, written reports and poster presentation.
