As an apprentice you will spend the majority of your week working for an employer and learning in the workplace. You will also usually come to college for one day a week to gain support from your tutors and learn about the technical aspects of your job role. To achieve the
Apprenticeship you will usually need to complete a number of qualifications including the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Foundation qualification and Functional Skills*.

To achieve the AAT Foundation you will complete units including:

· Making records of payments
· Working with computers
· Preparing ledger balances
· Supplying management information

How will I be assessed?
Assessments are carried out through the successful completion of the AAT Foundation, which includes skills tests, observations, assignments and projects. Tutors will make regular visits to your workplace to conduct reviews of your progress and to ensure that
you are on target to gain your qualifications.

How long will it take?

The time taken for you to achieve your Apprenticeship will depend on how well you get on at work, but most of all, it will depend on your own
commitment and motivation to complete your training. As a general
rule, this Apprenticeship will take 12-18 months.

Progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Accountancy.

Progress to a BTEC National Diploma in Business, or a similar course in a different subject area.

Achieving this Apprenticeship will give you the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.

*You may be exempt if you have recently achieved a good grade in English Language and Maths at GCSE.
