Summary: This work based course develops the skills and knowledge needed for a wide range of careers working in business and administration.








Course description: All training on this course is delivered either in the workplace or at College, on a day release basis.
This Apprenticeship framework is designed for people working in roles such as administration executive/officer, personal assistant or secretary, office juniors, receptionists/medical receptionists, junior legal secretaries or junior medical secretaries.
This course develops the skills needed to be an effective administrator within a business environment. Tasks undertaken by apprentices will vary depending on the level and sector in which they are employed. Tasks may include producing documents, preparing notes, organising and co-ordinating events and meetings, developing and delivering presentations, providing reception services, using office equipment, setting up and maintaining filing systems, using a variety of software packages, updating information and managing projects.
In this course, learning is based around providing business support systems, processes and services that enable the organisation to achieve its objectives and continuously improve its performance for the customer.
Students will complete:

BIIAB Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Functional Skills in Maths, English and Information and Communications Technology (unless exempt).

Entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Apprentices who took their GCSEs more than five years ago and did not gain a C grade or above may need to take a literacy and numeracy test. Applicants will also be invited to a pre-enrolment interview.
Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16, whether they have just left school or have been working for years. As an apprenticeship is a work based qualification, applicants should either have an employer who has agreed to support them, or be seeking an apprenticeship position through our vacancies list. Once you have secured a position with an employer your training can begin.









Learning outcome: Administrators need a broad range of skills to work efficiently and to help increase business productivity. Skills identified as essential by organisations include; office and administration skills, customer-handling skills, technical and practical skills, oral communication skills and IT skills.









Objective: Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the needs of employers, which lead to nationally recognised qualifications.









Assessment: Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace, except some of the content, which may be undertaken in college. Assessment is via a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, practical assessments and projects.









Academic progression: Successful apprentices may progress to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Administration or to another further education route.









Career progression: Career progression may include continuation, development or promotion at work or within the business sector, for instance into roles such as administration executive, team leader, office supervisor or personal assistant.









Costs: Training on the Apprenticeships programme is currently funded for apprentices aged 16 - 18 years at the time of enrolment.  An employer contribution is required for those aged either 19+ or who have a level 4 or higher qualification.
