Programme outline

Christianity is unique among the religions of the world in that it was born with sacred books lying in its cradle ready to be taken up later. As far as we know, Jesus wrote nothing, nor did the first generation of Christians, yet today we have a Christian collection of sacred books; namely, the New Testament Canon. How this came about during the first four centuries will be vital to our correct understanding of each work set within its own background and through the eyes of its intended readers. None of this was possible without the exciting material provided by archaeologists over the last two centuries or more.

Where more exciting to begin than with the Pauline letters? Which are written by him and which by devout Paulinists correctly using his name? Similarly, the four gospels will also be studied each for its own distinctive contributions. Nor shall the book of Revelation be omitted; and - who wrote that?

It is hoped that the New Testament writing will be seen as part of the nourishment of one's entire Christian life. The New Testament is indeed a box of jewels, each jewel having, for believers, its own distinctive colour and beauty.
