The Programme
A practical art and design course which explores the production of original photographic imagery through observing and documenting life around you. The course will develop your image making skills through drawing and other art and design processes, digital and traditional photographic techniques as well as experimental photographic techniques. A small amount of digital cameras are available to borrow, but we advise that you have your own 6MP or higher camera for with manual exposure settings.
The Programme Content
Both the AS and the full A Levels are modular programmes made up of coursework and an externally set assignment which includes a timed piece for both levels. Students are encouraged to work individually and evolve their own solutions through discussion and exploration. There is a small studio with lights in the College, however most of the shooting of photographs will be done outside of lesson time. You should expect to spend up to five hours per week outside of college taking photographs, drawing, exploring ideas or contextual research to contribute to your coursework.
Progression / Careers
Many students choose to progress to the Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art & Design but some progress directly to specialist degree courses in Art & Design either at North Devon College or elsewhere in the country.
