BA (Hons) Film Arts

Mode:
full-time

The BA Degree in Film Arts at Plymouth College of Art seeks to foster exploration and innovation in professional film arts practice with the emphasis on the energisation of the individual and the utilisation of film arts media as a means of artistic self expression.

Building upon the College’s long-standing reputation in providing exceptional professional film production education, this degree programme aims to invigorate contemporary professional film production practices with a renewed artistic impetus, by encouraging the exploration of film arts debate within a variety of exciting and challenging contemporary film practice contexts.

Film Arts students on the Film Arts degree course will be directly immersed in film-making in a wide variety of production roles and contexts. Areas of focus exploit the College’s extensive production resource, (which is the most comprehensively stocked Film Arts production resource in the region).

During your time studying the BA degree in Film Arts you will have the opportunity to study Super16mm Cinematography, Multi-Speed 16mm Cinematography, in addition to cutting-edge High Definition (HD) Videography, High Definition Post-Production (dual platform), Directing for Film & TV, 5.1 Surround Sound Design for Film, Screenwriting, and even Underwater Film and Video!

Students will also be fully supported in making informed choices relating to their chosen area of vocational specialisation within film-making, and will benefit from the College’s well-established regional, national and international links with the professional Film and Broadcast industries.

The study of Film Arts at Plymouth College of Art and Design is rooted firmly in the exploration of the opportunities, possibilities and realities of contemporary film arts practice and seeks to extend the range and scope of students’ ambition, beyond the traditional (and somewhat narrow) focus of vocationally-based moving image education.

During the third BA (Hons) top up year you will consolidate and focus your knowledge base towards engagement as a film arts professional, undertaking several substantial production focused modules in addition to researching and producing a dissertation.
