About this course

The most important pre-requisite is a grade C GCSE or better in an Art and Design related subject. However, a passionate interest, understanding and commitment to the subject are also major requirements for success.

WHY TAKE A BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN ART AND DESIGN?
This course is for students who are considering a career in Art and Design or a career where a background in art is relevant - such as publishing, theatre, museum or gallery work. It is a course for students who enjoy being creative - working to 'real' projects set by Art and Design professionals and who thrive on challenges.

So if you want a creative career, are hardworking and enthusiastic about Art and Design and willing to take on challenging ideas - then this exciting course is for you. Students on this course progress to University to study Art or Design, or into Art and Design related employment.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?

You will not only develop your creativity but you will also learn about how designers work in industry.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
This course is based on practical coursework. You will need to be committed to Art and Design, willing to work hard, and be excited by the idea of producing Art and Design work that is personal and unique.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be informally assessed throughout the course and formally assessed at the end of each unit when you will present and display your work.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
As well as working in the studios you will be encouraged to participate in research trips and gallery visits both locally and abroad. As part of your course you will have the opportunity to talk to visiting speakers from university and from industry about careers and courses.
