You can choose to attend one workshop from each session. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

In this workshop, designed by Dr Katherine Forsey, you'll explore a variety of timed hands-on activities that can be used to support enrichment in schools. Can you do it in 5 minutes? Take the challenge!

Learn about biology practicals that work. Plants make a great basis for biology practicals: cheap, engaging, and - with our tested protocols - reliable. SAPS ambassador Gail Webdell will be sharing hints and tips for the smooth running of tricky core practicals and looking at new practicals being developed.

Do you lead a team or even just work in a team? If so this session will get you exploring and thinking about how you can get the best out of working with your team mates (other technicians and teachers). The session will cover leadership and vision, self-awareness, team working and surviving difficult conversations - all in the space of an hour. It will give you a boost and strategies for working with others in your department and school.

Micro and reduced scale experiments - a review of resources and equipment available. In this workshop you'll have an opportunity to try some experiments, learn how to reduce cost, preparation time and make practical science safer.

Whether you're thinking of running a STEM club or looking for new ideas this is for you. Hear from the speaker about fantastic fun ideas from their new third-year schemes of work.

In this workshop, run by Karen Curzon, you'll be introduced to ideas and activities to develop outreach work for feeder schools. Please note this workshop is a change to the original programme.

In this workshop you'll explore a range of simple and inspiring practical ideas. These will include the use of mobile technology (tablets and smart phones) and will be suitable for practical application in chemistry, biology and physics.

This workshop looks at legislation on health and safety, including the Health and Safety at Work 1974 legislation and its subsequent regulations. It will look at different types of stores, store requirements, specialist stores and radiation and storage groups.

You'll be able to:

• develop skills to share good practice and address key issues for the effective storage of chemicals
• enhance understanding of GHS / CLP regulations
• develop the skills to produce own electronic storage systems
• evaluate and develop an understanding of prep room
• organisation and management systems
• evaluate different types of stock control

In this hands-on session you'll have the opportunity to practise glass working. Gain the knowledge and confidence to cut glass tubing and manipulate in a Bunsen flame to smooth cut edges, make bends and seal tubing. You'll also learn how to safely insert glass tubing through rubber bungs.

By the end of the conference you should have:

• some practical ideas for use in the classroom
• a clearer understanding of health and safety at work
