Course summary

This course provides the skills you need to become more assertive, and helps you develop a personal style that will benefit you, your colleagues and your organisation.


Course outline

The course is primarily intended for administrative staff and those new to supervising or leading teams. Over the day you will cover:
  • what assertiveness means
  • passive, aggressive, indirect or assertive? Recognising your own style
  • taking responsibility for your role and workload
  • how to delegate simple tasks
  • identifying your communication strengths
  • techniques for making requests and dealing with overload
  • tips for disagreeing in a positive way
  • stating your views clearly and being heard
  • personal presentation
  • listening skills
  • receiving and giving praise and criticism
  • participating in team meetings
The course combines training sessions with practical exercises. Participants work as a group and in pairs, and are encouraged to share their experiences. There will be video feedback during the course of the day.
