Course programme
This 4 hour course is designed to allow first aiders to extend the circle of care or chain of survival beyond the traditional ABC’s of ‘A’ airway, ‘B’ breathing and ‘C’ circulation, now we have ‘D’ for defibrillation.
What is an AED?
AEDs (automated external defibrillators) are safe, economic, simple to use and above all else reliable. An AED provides a brief electrical shock to the heart to restore the hearts normal rhythm disrupted during a sudden cardiac arrest. (SCA).
Thanks to the incredible software available today our AEDs only provide a shock if one is needed and when that shock is delivered the power of the shock is regulated to each patient’s ability to conduct electricity.
By having an AED available on your premises you are increasing the chances of survival for a victim of SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) beyond measure. Over 270,000 people in the UK suffer from a heart attack every year. In reality most victims of SCA are going to die.
Defibrillation is the only effective treatment for SCA and needs to be provided in the first few minutes to be effective. Clinical studies have shown that victims of SCA who are defibrillated immediately have over 90% chance of survival.
It’s not acceptable to wait for an ambulance to arrive and defibrillate…by then it is too late. For each minute that passes, a victim’s chance of survival drops between 7-10 per cent.
AEDs save lives; at Cymru Medical Services we train you to give the greatest gift Of all…life.
On successful completion of the course our students will receive a certificate of competence which complies with current resuscitation guidelines.
