A National Recognised Qualification

Award in Education and Training (AET) is a nationally recognised qualification for teaching in post-16 education (i.e. adult education) and has been designed as the essential first step for anyone looking to gain a teaching/training qualification. The AET will provide an introduction to teaching for individuals who would like to or are currently delivering adult education and training within FE colleges, Independent Training Providers or work based learning environments.

About this course

From this course you or your staff will not only be fully qualified and accredited, but will also acquire the essential skills and techniques to; plan a lesson for a group, produce supporting resources to meet individual learning styles and develop the knowledge of how assessment can be used at various stages of the learning cycle. Our tutors are fully qualified and experienced in ensuring all candidates attending our training courses receive all the knowledge, skills, behaviours and confidence to transfer what they have learnt into their future working lives.

This award is suitable for entrants who do not have any prior teaching experience or qualification, but it is also relevant for individuals already working in this area who want to gain an official teaching qualification. There are no formal entry requirements for this training course, but candidates must have experience in the subject they wish to teach. Our Level 3 Award in Education and Training course is also an invaluable course to have on your CV even if you don't want to teach or for Managers looking for 'Train the Trainer' courses and are looking to develop their staff! You can use this qualification as a taster for many other jobs and it will certainly enhance your next job application.

The course is split into three units and on completion learners will have demonstrated that they are able to: ​
Understand Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
Understand and Use Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
Understand Assessment in Education and Training

The course is delivered over 4-5 days and will include a theory based written assignment and a micro-teach session which is assessed by tutor and your peers. The assignments are internally set and marked by ULearn Business and externally moderated by Edexcel

Marianne has gained her CTLLS qualification and is working towards her Assessors Award, as well as gaining her Foundation Degree in Management Marianne successfully led the team to gaining Investors in People in 2014

Course programme

This new award is equivalent to the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) Qualification. Successful completion of the AET qualification will allow entrants to progress on to:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) previously known as Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, which will allow you to become an assessor within work based learning or a college environment.
