The ILM Award in Team Leading Level 2 consists of 4 modules.
DCA Module 1Managing Yourself
This module addresses the best way to approach self management and includes techniques for planning your work and the work of a team. You will learn about SMART objectives; how to use them to prioritise your own actions, and how they can be used to assist in achieving team and organisational goals. You will then go on to consider time management techniques and how to use action plans to define personal objectives in relation to team objectives.
This unit also looks at stress at work; its causes, impact and management.
DCA Module 2Workplace Communication
The aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of communication as required by a practising or potential team leader. This unit looks at the stages involved in the communication process, and at barriers to communication and how to overcome them.
You will also study the range of direct communication methods available and their relative advantages and disadvantages in a variety of work based situations, as well as aspects of face-to-face communication, including appearance, impact and body language.
Finally, students studying this module will look at the importance of succinct and accurate records of one-to-one oral communication and the reasons for maintaining records of one-to-one communication (e.g. potential disciplinary or legal issues).
DCA Module 3Providing Quality to Customers
The aim of this module is to introduce the concept of 'quality' in business. In this context, 'quality' is more than a word to describe how good your product or service is, it covers a whole range of important systems and disciplines. You will study the difference between quality assurance and quality control, and how to identify the simple quality systems which are most relevant to your organisation.
On completion of this module you should be able to recognise quality standards and understand the concept of 'Total Quality Management'.
DCA Module 4Developing Yourself as a Team Leader
This module concentrates on developing the skills and knowledge which you will need to get the best out of your team, to earn their trust and to lead them towards business goals. As part of this module you will to assess your current skill levels and look at how to set goals to address your training and development needs. You'll explore what teams are, how they work and what skills you need to get the best performance from them. You will study the tasks and responsibilities of a team leader, the ways in which you're accountable for your team's performance and the techniques that will help to build trust and respect between all team members.
By the end of this module you should have an understanding of the purpose of personal action planning techniques, ways of obtaining feedback from others to improve your performance, and you should be able to identify methods of coaching, training and development.
