  • nlike many other study abroad experiences, HECUA allows you to intern at a community peace-building organization. I got the unique opportunity to intern at a truth recovery/human rights legal NGO, which solidified my interest in human rights law for the future.

  • I only took a shorter course and can therefore not say anything about the university as a whole…Be prepared to spend money.

  • There are plans to move the Jordanstown campus into Belfast in 2017. The whole of Northern Ireland is great and a very welcoming place for students that are from abroad.

Course Content

This three-year full-time course is designed to equip students with high-level technical and conceptual skills. In Year 1, you are introduced to the values, practices and historical and theoretical contexts relating to your chosen area and encouraged to explore these and take risks to achieve innovative and creative outcomes.
Year 2 allows you to reflect on your creative progress while supporting increasing independence of ideas in your studio practice and related academic research. You will be encouraged to develop and explore entrepreneurship, and take part in 'live' projects, and exhibit work in a professional way.

Year 3 sees the mature and confident resolution of the ideas informing your practice, leading to a professional resolution and a final public exhibition.
After successful completion of Year 2 you can opt to undertake a placement year, leading to the award of a Diploma in Professional Practice or Diploma in International Academic Studies. The DPP is generally European-based and workshop orientated. The DIAS allows for further study at a college in the USA, and content follows a business or arts and business programme. You will obtain the appropriate award in addition to your degree's classification on successful completion of your Final Year. Many of our students avail of this exciting and valuable opportunity, and see a great benefit when they return to study in their Final year.

The course is modular in structure, and assessment takes place in January and May of each academic year.
