Year 1
In Year 1 you will study both of your combined honours subjects equally. In Early Years, you will study childrens learning and development, and childrens services.
The Childhood and Youth programme draws upon relevant theory and research in psychology, sociology, philosophy, social policy, and health and educational studies, to engage with current issues and debates concerning children and young people.
You will study key concepts and debates in social science in relation to childhood and youth. This includes the study of key aspects of childrens psychological development, and the acquisition of language and intelligence, societal influences on children and young people, policy as it relates to childhood and youth, health and well-being in childhood and youth, and related ethical and moral issues.

Year 2
In Year 2 you can continue with equal study or choose a major/minor route. The units you study will depend on the route you have chosen and in Early Years currently include further studies in childrens learning and development, and citizenship and participation. Option units cover topics such as creative leadership; health, community and social care; and creative childhoods. Your childhood and youth modules will explore the process of developmental issues, alongside exploring issues of vulnerability and sensitivity in social research.

Year 3
In your final year you will take three core options including a dissertation and you will also choose one further option. You can continue with an equal or major/minor route. In Early Years you will continue to study issues in childrens learning and development, and early years and education. Option units offer further studies in creative leadership; health, community and social care; and creative childhoods. In Childhood and Youth Studies you will consider relevant perspectives from Sociology, Social Policy, Social Anthropology and Human Geography to explore key aspects of children and young people's lived experiences in local, national and global contexts. Other units explore ways of working with children and young people in contemporary UK society.
