The course is the first step on the career path to becoming a BPS Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist and HCPC Registered Psychologist. It is taught by accredited BPS and HCPC Registered psychologists in buildings with state-of-the art laboratories. Lecturers draw from their varied experiences as practitioners and researchers to bring the subject matter to life and outline how psychological principles and theories can be employed to benefit those in high performance environments (e.g. elite sport) and the health and fitness sectors (e.g. physical activity prescription and promotion).

The first year assumes no prior knowledge of the psychology of sport and exercise. It is designed to give a broad-based introduction to the subject as well as an understanding of the application of research methods to this subject area.
