The requirements for the major in Spanish and Latin American Language and Literatures are as follows:

BA in Spanish
The general requirements stated under Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
Prerequisite courses – Span 1001, 1002 (or 1012), 1003, 1004 (or 1034), 2005.
30 credit hours consisting of Span 2006 (or 2056); Span 3100; seven 3000-4000-level courses distributed as indicated below; and, in the senior year, Span 4910. The seven 3000-4000-level courses must include two in literature before 1800, two in literature since 1800, and three chosen from among all 3000-4000-level Spanish courses. Additionally, in the senior year, students invited to write an honors thesis, can enroll in Span 4920.
Up to two 3000-4000 level courses may be taken from outside the program, with the approval of the Spanish major advisor. No more than four courses taken abroad or another institution may count toward the Major (excluding GW Study Centers in Chile and Spain).
