This Creative Media Practice course is for individuals who are passionate about making media, who want to become media professionals. Fulfil your creative potential; you’ll have opportunities to develop your production skills across different digital and interactive media. We’ll help you understand the contemporary media business landscape and develop your identity as a media professional.
In your final year, you’ll join Artswork Media, a professional production company and digital agency. Based at Paintworks, in Bristol's creative quarter, the Bath Spa University-led company is run by students and media professionals.

In your final year, you join ‘Artswork Media’: a professional production company and digital agency
During the course students will have the chance to study and experience a variety of media roles. Within the Year 3 project modules you will work with industry mentors and the University careers service to plan your future – be it progression to further study or seeking opportunities in the workplace.
You will have a detailed understanding of key areas of employment which draw on creative media skills. You will also have a thorough understanding of the opportunities associated with freelance work and the process of establishing your own business.
By equipping you with this range of critical and practice-based skills, the degree will provide a firm foundation for work in a rapidly expanding and changing media sector in which multi-skilling, creativity and agility are increasingly essential.
Since 2011, employers such as ESPN, The Farm Group and the University of Exeter have recruited graduates from this course. Students have also gone into roles including Production Assistant, Freelance Camera Operator, Director of Photography and Post Production Runner.
We accept a wide range of qualifications for entry to our undergraduate programmes. The main ones are listed below:
A Level - A level Grades BCC to CCC accepted in Media, Art, English related courses.
BTEC - Extended Diploma grades Merit, Merit. Merit (MMM) accepted.
International Baccalaureate - A minimum of 26 points will be required in addition to evidence of further experience or evidence of interest in Media.

Course programme
· Year 1
Develop your skills. You’ll be introduced to ways of nurturing your creative thinking and problem-solving skills individually and in teams. You’ll develop your skills in audiovisual editing, interaction design and image manipulation. In your core module, we introduce you to ways of thinking about media texts and forms, audiences, and the industries and institutions in the media and creative sector. Brief-led projects bring together and showcase your skills and knowledge.
· Year 2
Begin to specialise. Your core module introduces the practices and processes of commissioning work in the media industries. You’ll learn about employment opportunities and start to think about yourself as a budding media professional. Optional modules give you opportunities to explore specialisms including digital and interactive media production, experimental media and activism, short-form filmmaking, visual design, and media writing. All students work together to plan, budget and stage a media event.
· Year 3
Join Artswork Media. Supported by tutors and media practitioners, you’ll work on a variety of independent projects and develop your professional identity and portfolio. An important part of Artswork Media is working with clients on live projects. In 2015-16, clients included: Bristol Old Vic; Bath Film Festival; Dickies; Bridport 'From Page to Screen' Film Festival; Somerset Football Association; and Glastonbury Music Festival.
Course assessment
Creative Media Practice assessments are all based around coursework. Throughout your time studying with us, you’ll work on a variety of independent and brief-led projects across different media. You’ll produce project reports, research journals and diaries, essays and portfolios.
