Course programme
Year 1
In Year 1, through optional workshop inductions, you will be introduced to a range of practical skills and media relevant to the four subjects within the programme: Fashion Design, Knitwear, Printed Textiles and Woven Textiles. The Research and Communication Skills module will equip you for the assignments at this level and throughout your studies. The programme focuses on working towards practical output through projects and workshops set by your tutors. You will also begin to engage with the contexts and the debates in contemporary art and design through the Contemporary Issues module.
The broad range of skills and experience offered at level one will provide you with the knowledge and understanding necessary to select specialism for level two and three. The choice of specialism will be your decision and you will be guided by your tutors. You will also be offered support when choosing a career-orientated option module for level two and three.

Year 2
By Year 2 you will have established a broader appreciation of a range of practical skills and an understanding of what informs and contextualises ideas and practices in fashion and textiles. You will now be encouraged to explore and experiment, speculate and test your ideas with the aim of developing your own informed, skilled, independent practice.
The progression from Year 1 is demonstrated in Year 2 by increasingly developing your own independent ideas in respect to themes of interest and projects. You will work within and focus your work according to the practices consistent with your specialism. You study a career-orientated option module designed to enable you to tailor your programme to suit your choice of career path. For example, you may choose to study Business for the Creative Industries to prepare yourself for a career as a freelance Fashion or Textile Designer following graduation. Your choice of career-orientated option module in Year 2 will require you to study the same option module in Year 3.
Student exchanges enable you to develop your understanding from different cultural and professional viewpoints while developing the independent learning skills required to progress to part three.
