BA (Hons) Fashion is the study and development of wearable media. This innovative course offers designers of the future the opportunity to study fashion design with a focus on the use and application of new technology.
This course is about creating designers with industry ready skills and a firm grasp of concept development. We encourage our students to think about their design signature from the start of their studies and we work with each individual to oversee their growth as a designer. Using our digital workshops, students are encouraged to explore new digital technologies such as 3D printing, digital print, digital embroidery, laser cutting and the Lectra CAD/CAM Design Management system. You will learn through a mix of practice and theory and will be supported by teaching staff and visiting professionals from the fashion industry.
Fashion designers most often work within menswear, womenswear, textile design, creative cutting, product development, CAD/CAM processes, professional spec. drawing, and tech pack production.

What your course will look like

Assessment

You will be continually assessed through preparation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through dissertation and portfolio.

Year 1

You will build fundamental skills in textiles, digital design directives, and the most current industry software and technology. There is an emphasis on understanding fashion with a focus on your signature and direction. We encourage you to start thinking about your contextual studies research throughout this year.

Year 2

You will gain greater understanding of creative collaboration and start to build a skills based portfolio. We support all our students to undertake a work placement in the final term. Students start to solidify ideas about their signature pieces and brand.

Year 3

You will bring your learning together in a self-directed design project, ready for show or exhibition at the degree show. We ask you to show your contextual studies research and thinking in a long form dissertation. You will bring together your skills in an industry ready portfolio whilst at the same time being encouraged to enter external competitions.
