Course programme

This course combines technical training in pattern cutting and garment production with design and visual communication understanding.

You will develop skills in drawing, textiles, photography, fashion visualisation and design methods through short projects and collaborative work. You will also develop the personal qualities and attitudes you need for a career in the fashion industry.

You will work on a variety of design projects that involve research, visits to exhibitions and museums, garment making, fashion illustration and presentation. You will also develop individual projects for your final collection and fashion show.

In addition, you will improve your English and communication skills through contextual studies, and idea and concept development.

You'll need four GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and one in Art at grade A or B). Alternatively, you'll need a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design with Merit or Distinction, including Functional Skills in English at Level 2.

You must have a good reference and will be interviewed with your portfolio of art, fashion and or textiles work.

You will be assessed through coursework, and on your final collection.

This course is equivalent to three A Levels. Successful completion of the course with Merit or Distinction will allow you to start a full degree at university. You can also progress onto a Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Textiles with Fashion pathway) or a Foundation Degree in Fashion with Textiles at City and Islington College. The course can also lead to internships and apprenticeships in fashion and textile design businesses.
