Summary: This one year top up from a Foundation degree is an opportunity to develop existing learning in hospitality and leisure management








Course description: This course provides progression opportunities for applicants with an appropriate Foundation Degree. It is a full time programme delivered over one year (two semesters).
As the programme proceeds greater emphasis is placed on students development as an independent learner, refining their own approaches and challenging preconceived ideas.
our Hospitality programmes are highly relevant to current industrial practice through the use of current live case studies, visiting speakers and visits to industry and employers. Our graduates are highly attractive to employers and quickly find approporate rewarding jobs.
All of City College Norwich’s Degree programmes are validated by the UEA, meaning that the quality of the awards you get is assured by a world renowned Higher Education organisation. The UEA is a UK top 20 and world top 150 university.
 
Students will be required to attend college two  days per week. The course is delivered through a mix of workshops, lectures, tutorials and self directed study, with emphasis on business practice.
The course is made up of 120 credits at level 6 and incudes a dissertation, core modules in Strategic management, Service operations management, Sustainable development for hospitality, tourism and events. Students will also be able to take one option form a selection including Culture, place and identity, special festivals and events, Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, Gastronomy, International tourism development.
 









Entry requirements: A pass in a relevant  Foundation Degree or equivalent credits from other recognised HE courses.
Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), the required minimum is:

IELTS (SELT): 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components)

Or GCSE English A*-C

Learning outcome: Our programmes are always highly relevant to current industrial practice through regular staff industry up-dating, current 'live' case studies, visiting speakers from industry and so on. Our graduates are highly attractive to employers and quickly find appropriate, rewarding jobs.  It is, however, small enough in terms of student numbers to offer a supportive learning environment where students are able to develop close working relationships with staff.









Assessment: Mainly through written assignments/reports both individually and as part of a group, learning diary/logs, some presentations, time constrained exercises (both open and closed book) and conventional essays.









Academic progression: Some graduates go on to postgraduate studies, for instance in teaching, or join management training schemes. Many enter the service sector where management and 'people' skills are highly valued and study for chartered status - CIPD - CIMA - CIM.









Career progression: This programme is designed to enable students to enter the wider industry base including hospitality, retail and leisure which includes spectator sports/events management. Some graduates join the wider national retailing sector and some enter the professions.
