You’ll graduate with the skills and contacts you need to become a theatre production professional, having worked on public productions in a range of venues.

Employers such as Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Cardiff Theatrical Services, Manchester International Festival, The Savoy Theatre ('Legally Blonde'), Aldwych Theatre ('Top Hat'), Wall to Wall Productions ('The Voice'/'Who Do You Think You Are'), Salisbury Playhouse, Stage Electrics, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Watermill Theatre Newbury, Queens Theatre Hornchurch, Birmingham Hippodrome and Theatre Royal Bath have recruited graduates from this course.

Many graduates undertake freelance professional careers, working as Scenic Designers, Wardrobe Technicians, Theatre Technicians, Stage Managers, Theatre Electricians and Event Managers.

We accept a wide range of qualifications for entry to our undergraduate programmes. The main ones are listed below:

A Level - Grades BCC - CCC required in Design & Technology, Theatre Production or related subjects.
BTEC -Extended Diploma grades Merit, Merit, Merit (MMM) in Theatre Production or related subjects accepted.
International Baccalaureate - A Minimum of 26 points required along with evidence of interest and/or experience in Theatre Production.

Course programme

· Year 1
Gain skills. You’ll gain the necessary foundation knowledge of all technical theatre, production arts and stage management disciplines. While some people know what career path they wish to follow from the start of the course, others explore the possibilities, as they discover new skills and areas of interest.
Theatre Production is a collection of disciplines and departments that collaborate to create live performance. There is no 'I' in Theatre Production, only 'we’, so an understanding of what each and every department is trying to achieve is crucial to success.

· Stage Management & Production Process

· An Introduction to Stage Lighting, Sound and AV

· Stagecraft (Construction Methods & Practice)

· An Introduction to Scenic & Costume Design

· Year 2
Work on productions. You’ll undertake a variety of production-based roles in a variety of backstage departments. These will either be in an area of your interest, or in an area that the staff team feel that you would benefit from engaging in.
Alongside this production activity, you’ll build your skills and knowledge by choosing two skills pathways. The choice of pathways is Stage Management, Scenography, Lighting, Sound and AV, Costume. Alongside this are two core pathways - Health & Safety, and Production Process. You’ll also complete a research project in an area of your interest.

· Year 3
Integrate with industry and specialise. You’ll become a member of OnSet Productions, a professional company that produces three seasons of work across a range of live and recorded media.
You’ll specialise in areas that are your particular strengths and interests. Production role opportunities include those of Costume Designer, Scenic Designer, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager, Head of Construction (Scenic or Costume), Scenic Artist and Production Manager.
You’ll undertake a professional work placement of at least four weeks duration. Many placement opportunities are available with our partners, Salisbury Playhouse and Theatre Royal Bath, alongside many others nationally.

Course assessment

You’ll be assessed by coursework including practical work, presentations, evaluations, group projects, individual reports and written assignments. There are no written exams.
