BA (Hons) Youth and Community Work
The BA (Hons) Youth and Community Work is built on a strong commitment to furthering equality of opportunity and anti-oppressive practice and outcomes, both for students themselves and for the people with whom they work during their studies and in the longer term. The primary orientation of the modules and the emphasis placed on their length reflect the importance of these elements to our College. Youth and community work is identified essentially as an educational activity and the approach is founded on the principles, values and ethics of the profession, with an eperiential learning environment.

For the 3rd year running we have received the "Satisfactory with Commendation" category from the NYA

Overall Course Aims
The programme seeks to develop reflective and reflexive practitioners and to educate and train students who are not only aware of the professional and academic value-base, but actively committed to the principles they embody. The programme aspires to enhance the professionalism of youth work theory and practice, through the continued application of eperiential learning of anti-oppressive practice.

Learning Methods and Strategies
Tutorials are an integral aspect of delivering the modules. Students throughout their time at Ruskin are divided into tutorial study groups which play an important part in supporting students in small groups and work towards the completion of aspects of the Personal Development Plan (PDP). In addition, teaching methods focus on small group tasks and other experiential approaches, such as case studies and role-plays. Lectures are used where appropriate.

Requirement
All candidates must be able to satisfy the general admissions requirements for Ruskin College. These are: * Candidates must attend an interview * Candidates must demonstrate commitment to the ethos and vocation of Ruskin College * Candidates must have the ability to benefit from study at this level, fulfil the learning outcomes of the programme and achieve the standard required for the award * Candidates must have a satisfactory CRB Clearance, medical form and two references In addition, all students are asked to disclose ANY previous criminal conviction (including cautions, warnings, and reprimands) however long ago they occurred and whether as a juvenile or an adult. In addition, students will be required to undergo an up to date enhanced criminal records check and to receive clearance before undertaking any placement. Where a student has a previous conviction, caution, warning or reprimand this may not be an automatic bar to entry onto the course, but it will be given full consideration and may be subject to a risk assessment. If you have a Certificate of Higher Education or 120 CATS points in a relevant subject and are JNC qualified you may be eligible for direct entry onto year two of this course. Please contact our Admissions Officer for further information. Similarly, if you have a Diploma of Higher Education or 240 CATS points in a relevant subject and you are JNC qualified you may be eligible for direct entry onto year three of this course.
