About BA Theatre and Film
The Theatre and Film course at Bristol combines historical and theoretical study with practice-based investigations of theatre, film and television. There are opportunities to engage with industry professionals and to use our museum-accredited archive, the Theatre Collection.
In your first year you will attend a mixture of lectures, seminars and practical workshops, beginning with introductory units that will teach you how to analyse performance, film and television.
You will then progress to units exploring significant historical movements, contemporary practices and the theoretical concepts that underpin and inform creative work. The course culminates in independent study, which can take the form of group or individual performance, a short film, an extended essay or an industrial placement.
You will have access to our film-making equipment and editing suites, and to the Wickham Theatre, where productions are presented and practical teaching takes place. We also have strong links with theatres, arts centres and media companies.
