Course programme

Course Content

Business Studies with Psychology programme has four core business modules and two psychology modules in each academic year. Between first and second year students will have sampled the main disciplines of Accounting, Human Resource Management and Marketing from the Business side.

Business Studies with Psychology presents students with the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of business in addition to a set of specialized topics in psychology sufficient to give a substantial understand of, and experience in, the principles and modes of thought in Psychology.

Year 1 contains six compulsory modules of study, including an extended induction and study skills module where you are introduced to university teaching and learning methods. This module helps you to prepare for the acquisition of the personal and interpersonal skills needed to enhance career opportunity. The business modules studied in first year are: Information and Study Skills Management, Introduction to Economics, Principles of Accounting, and Organisation and Management Studies. The specialist modules in Psychology are Introduction to Psychology (A) and Classic Studies (A). The second and final years of study contain a core of four business modules combined with two Psychology modules from the chosen Minor area.

In the second year students follow the core Business Studies modules of Creative Thinking/Social Media, Principles of Human Resource Management, Principles of Marketing and Business and Market Research. The Psychology modules are Developmental Psychology and Personality & Individual Difference or Social Psychology (A).

The third year may be spent undertaking a programme of work experience, usually of 48 weeks duration. Many students undertake their placement in the USA or the Republic of Ireland. Placement provides exposure to alternative business cultures and corresponding protocols. Successful completion of the placement year leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Practice or a Diploma in International Academic Studies. In the final year students continue with the four core business modules of Business strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Management of Change and Financial Decision Making. The final two Psychology modules are Occupational Psychology and Health Psychology.
