Ballroom Dancing - Introductory


Who is this course for?
Students who wish to learn the basic skills of Ballroom Dancing. (It is not necessary to have a partner.)

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
None. The course is designed for Beginners and for students who want to become more confident in their Ballroom Dancing skills before they progress to Level 2.

What is the level of the course?
Suitable for beginners.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Learning outcomes (you will be able to) : - learning the basic steps of Ballroom and Latin Dances - dance to the correct beat - how to hold a partner - recognise different rhythms

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
The teacher demonstrates the closed changes going forward and backwards. Students then come behind the teacher and follow going forwards and backwards. First solo, without music, then with music counting 1 2 3; they then take partners learning the hold and practice this around the room, first without music then with music, changing partners. The natural and reverse turns are then added. The gentleman learns his steps then the lady her steps. After practicing they then take partners, changing regularly and listening to the teacher.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Ongoing feedback from the tutor. You will be assessed through critical observation, the Tutor will correct faults as they happen on the dance floor and monitor courtesy in the Ballroom in such areas as changing partners.

What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
WMC Certificate of completion.

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Practice at home. Come to class regularly to keep up with fellow students. Study beginners booklet and practice at public dances.

What can I do after completing this course?
Ballroom Dancing Level 2.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
No special equipment or matierals are necessary for these classes, just appopriate clothes and footwear for dancing. It is not necessary to have a partner.

Are there any other requirements?
You are required to attend every lesson on time.
