This course offers the candidate a very specialist course in the care and management of the privately owned horse or pony. Tutored by very experienced staff using the College horses at the main campus, the candidate will gain the basic theory and practical knowledge required as a new horse owner or those considering the purchase of a horse or pony.
Over the 2 Saturdays the course will aim to cover
- Introduction to the course - including health and safety
- Guided tour of the mounted branch
- What to look for when buying a horse or pony
- Requirements of the stabled or grass kept horse/pony
- Saddlery and fitting
- Boots and bandages
- Rugs for all occasions
- Preparing a horse to travel
- Basic veterinary care
Additional information
All candidates are expected to come prepared for manual work and dressed appropriately. Please provide strong, sturdy footwear (preferably steel toe cap) and outdoor clothing.
Applicants must be a minimum of 12 years old

Special Education Needs and Disability - Short Courses Prospective students who have a disability that may affect their studies should inform the College as soon as possible. Regrettably the College does not receive funding for the provision of learning support for students with additional learning needs attending Short Courses, which are run on a full-cost basis.
