About this course

All students including mature students will be asked to complete an entry test paper and must achieve the pass mark of 80%. You will need good practical hand skills with an ability to communicate effectively. Current employment within the plumbing industry is highly desirable and will be essential if you wish to progress to NVQ assessment at a later date.

Basic Plumbing C&G Certificate Level 2

Course Content:
For the Technical Certificate, you will learn the skills required of a trades person within a teaching environment, initially studying the following basic principals: Health & Safety, Building Construction, Pipe work, Plumbing Science, Electricity and basic physics of materials and metals involved. The work involved will include - cold water, hot water, rainwater, above ground drainage systems and basic fault finding, installing bathroom suites, lead roofing, central heating systems to nationally set standards. All the work will involve both theory and practical assessments. Over the full course and while in College about 60% of the work will be within a classroom. You will be assessed by taking eleven subject test papers, which require an 80% pass mark over a two-year period. An external set exam will be taken towards the later part of the course. All practical assessments must reach the required standards. Homework and self-study will be required in order to complete within the time frame. The use of computers is encouraged to complete written evidence. The use of open learning packs will be encouraged, although much of teaching is by traditional methods

Equipment Requirements:
Overalls and safety boots must be worn in our workshops.

Assessment:
A five-day practical assessment is required towards the completion of the course.

We recommend you purchase a reference textbook: 1) Plumbing NVQ Technical Certificate Level 2 (ISBN 0-435-40194-7) 2) Plumbing NVQ Technical Certificate Level 3 (ISBN 0-435-40195-5). If you are on a qualifying means tested benefit the tuition fees for some courses may be reduced. However, you will still need to pay Exam and College costs. You must claim tuition fee remission by providing evidence before enrolment.
