Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you are a school leaver and want to study beauty therapy.

What are the entry requirements?
You will be assessed on your English and Maths at interview. Induction is taken very seriously at this college. Learners will follow a five week induction programme where their suitability for the level and type of programme they are hoping to be on will be assessed. Successful completion of the induction period will confirm their place on a programme.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.

• Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 3

You can read longer pieces of writing and understand the main ideas without help. You can write longer pieces of writing of 100 words or more.
• Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 3

You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams to solve problems. You can add and subtract and do easy multiplication. You can use fractions and simple decimals.

What qualification will I receive?
NVQ Level 1 in Beauty Therapy.

Where can it lead?
It would lead onto progression to NVQ 2 in Beauty Therapy. To gain employment in the beauty industry you would have to have achieved a level 2 qualification at least. You could then choose to follow various routes Level 3 in Beauty Therapy, make-up route or advanced nail techniques.

What will I study?
Health & safety, salon reception duties, prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work area, assist with facial treatments, assist with nail treatments to hands. You assist level 2 & 3 students to carry out treatments on the general public in the college beauty salon. Although this is a basic course there is still a certain amount of theory involved and you will be required to complete assignments at home. You will assist level 2 & 3 students to carry out treatments on the general public which is assessed by observation and oral questioning by your tutor, collection of evidence to build a portfolio of work. Theory is tested through assignments, revision tests and external exams.

How will I be taught?
You assist level 2 & 3 students to carry out treatments on the general public in the college beauty salon. Although this is a basic course there is still a certain amount of theory involved and you will be required to complete assignments at home.
