Who The Course is for
The Beauty Therapy 19+ course is specifically designed for adults returning to education. The course is timetabled (where possible) to fit in with school hours..
Course Content
The course includes both practical and theory sessions, practical areas are performed working in the college Beauty Salons covering a range of practical skills in the following areas:
- Anatomy & Physiology.
- Health, Safety.
- Reception Duties.
- Make-up.
- Facial.
- Waxing.
- Eye Treatments.
- Manicure and Pedicure.
- Key Skills.
- Relevant work placement.
- Homework.
Optional enrichment courses and trips may be available to full time students at an additional cost. Details will be available from the course coordinator.
All students must purchase relevant kit from the beauty therapy department. Costs will be discussed at enrolment and during the college induction. Students will be required to carry out treatments on the general public who book in as clients at our reception area. On occasion you will also need to provide a paying model for your practical assessments and be prepared to work on male clients.
All students must wear the college uniform, which is:
- Long smart black trousers (Purchased by student)
- College tunic (Purchased from the department)
- Low heeled full black smart shoes (Purchased by student)
- Students will be required to remove all visible jewellery including facial piercing during all practical sessions (due to awarding body requirements) and have short nails with no nail polish.
Mobile phones must not be accessed in classrooms and salons unless permission has been sought from the course leader.
If the above is not adhered to you will be asked to leave the salons.
A certain level of manual dexterity will be required for this course.
Entry RequirementsLearning & Assessment Methods
Assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, case studies, written essential knowledge papers, assignments and end examinations set by the examination awarding body. An internal/external examiner will assess all portfolio evidence and practical skills.
Qualifications Gained
NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy, awarded by VTCT.
City & Guilds Award in Contact Dermatitis Prevention.
Progression Opportunities
Successful completion of the course may lead to the NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy, Holistic Therapies Level 2 or NVQ Nail Services.
