Short Description: This is an introductory programme for anyone wanting to pursue a career in Beauty Therapy. Students will learn the main techniques used by beauty therapists concerned with treatments for head, back, hands, feet and face.

Where will it take me? This practical course provides students with the relevant training in beauty that can lead directly on to NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy and a career within the beauty industry. If you secure a job during the programme you can move directly onto the Apprenticeship programme at Level 2.

What's it all about? This is a good introduction which enables you to obtain invaluable experience within all aspects of the beauty therapy industry.

Subjects studied will include:

• Providing facial massage and skincare
• Applying and instructing on make-up
• Manicure treatment
• Pedicure treatment
• Epilation
• Shaping eyebrows
• Tinting eyelashes and eyebrows
• Implementing a good working relationship with colleagues and clients

Plus 2 optional units of choice.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths and IT. You will also have the opportunity to complete a qualification in IT and to participate in an enterprise programme.

How will this course make me more employable? As well as gaining a recognised qualification you will complete a period of work placement, take part in employability skills workshop. The Careers Education Programme is an integral part of this course which will equip you with the knowledge to make informed career decisions.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed on your competence in each skills area by observation in the salon, oral questioning and written examination.
