Course programme
You will need to have a Diploma Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery. There are no age restrictions on this course. An interview is required for this course, with the course tutor, prior to enrolment. Course Content SITE • Information and Quantities; project planning, supervisory skills and communication • Building Methods: sustainable construction and materials, energy efficiency • Complex Structural Fix, hand-cut roofs, trussed roofs, hips, valleys and dormer windows • Maintenance, structural repairs • Practical test • Knowledge tests • Core test exam • Completion of evidence portfolio BENCH • Information and Quantities; project planning and communication • Building Methods: sustainable construction and materials, energy efficiency • Setting-out, marking-out, and manufacturing curved headed doors and frames, tapered tread stairs • Practical test, bow window • Knowledge tests • Core test exam • Completion of evidence portfolio. How will I be assessed? The assessments are flexible and ‘on-going’, covering practical and knowledge elements of the course. These are undertaken throughout the year. There are: • Externally set practical assignment/test • Externally set multi-choice knowledge question papers & externally set exam Progression On successful completion of this programme of study, you can progress on to an NVQ 3 if you have an NVQ 2 in Carpentry & Joinery and have a work placement and can gain work based evidence. You can also progress onto a BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction, leading to supervisory and managerial roles in the construction industry.
