This module provides you with a fundamental understanding of the properties and behaviour of materials. The module will allow you to investigate the relationships between design, manufacturing and material properties,

Module: 4MA007

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

To provide the concepts to underpin the discipline of Mathematics and enable students to model and analyse engineering systems, generate numerical values for system parameters, manipulate data to find system responses under defined conditions, evaluate the effects on systems of changes in variables and communicate ideas and results mathematically.

Module: 4MA004

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

This module will introduce you to basic scientific engineering principles covering stress analysis, engineering statics and dynamics. It will enable you to apply theorems and laws of engineering mechanics to investigate the behaviour of mechanical components.

Module: 4MA003

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

This module will enable you to acheive compentency in a range of workshop practical skills that will equip you to succeed in the field of engineering.

Module: 5MA033

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

This module is designed to give students a firm foundation in the principles of manufacturing system design. Students will develop an understanding of aspects that contribute to manufacturing system design and issues that are prevalent in real manufacturing contexts. Students will develop skills in group work and project management and will be able to use a variety of tools and techniques. Students will develop understanding of management systems that prevalent in all modern enterprises and understand ways of organising and managing IS activities in the context of the wider organisation.

Module: 5MA032

Credits: 20

Period: 1

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

Processes in industry, the public sector, and the 3rd sector are subject to external and internal environmental changes. Making and keeping the processes as effective and efficient as possible is vital to keeping down cost, avoiding waste and maximising returns on investment. Analysing and changing processes can be a complex and difficult activity, as this usually means changing the perceptions of process operators and customers, as well as redesigning the process itself. This module looks at the concepts of process improvement, within traditional production and administrative and service environments.

Module: 6MA002

Credits: 20

Period: 2

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

This module will enable you to explore the merits of 2D and 3D CAD modelling. It will briefly consider how Parametric based CAD can effectively support the engineering enterprise by the automation of complex geometry. The majority of contemporary systems are customisable in terms of input and graphical Interface and this aspect of exploitation will also be introduced. You will aslo investigate product configuration and the application of functional analysis. With the growth of the internet, CAD is now seen as a significant communication tool and the concept of “Distributed CAD” will therefore feature in the curriculum. You will use CAD tools in the creation, development, synthesis and communication of product design through to the detail design stage. You will also be Introduced to strategies for product structuring and use of standard parts

Module: 6MA006

Credits: 20

Period: 2

Type: Core

Locations: University Telford Campus

The module will introduce you to the latest emerging technologies likely to have an impact on people’s lives and applicable industries, both now or in the future. It will investigate the application of new techniques to relevant fields of experience, such as manufacturing, sustainability and design. It will also review and analyse how emerging technologies may impact on these disciplines and assess the effects they will have on commercial activities
