Course Outline:
The Professional Engineering (Power Systems) course is a progression pathway with 120 credits weighting, designed to give a route from foundation degrees to a BEng/BSc. It is offered to those who hold 240 credits from Aston Foundation Degree (or equivalent) in power engineering or other related topic. The course provides the advanced engineering knowledge and understanding needed to qualify for incorporated engineer (IEng) status, and helps with building the range of practical competences also needed for IEng.

The programme has six modules. There are four technical modules each worth 20 credits, a professional development audit module worth 10 credits and a work-based project module worth 30 credits.

Between 2 and 3 years Distance Learning

"The programme comprises of 6 modules. Students can have a sabbatical for 1 year, can take 3 modules per year to complete the programme in 2 years or 2 modules per year to complete in 3 years."

Location of course:
All learning and teaching is undertaken through Distance Learning using a Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard). You will also be allocated two Supervisor who will visit you in the workplace to help guide you through your studies. There will be a requirement to attend Aston University for an induction, to sit examinations and attend optional short tutorials. Any attendance at the University is usually arranged on Saturdays.

Induction days 2017:
All new students must attend the compulsory induction days which will be held at Aston University on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September 2017.

  • Entry Requirements and Fees

Entry requirement:
A Foundation Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. Applicants must be in full time employment and have the support of their employer. We understand that some engineers may not have completed a Foundation Degree (or equivalent qualification) and therefore do not meet the entry requirements. However, if you do have at least 180 credits from previous qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline, then we may be able to offer you the opportunity to complete a Portfolio of Evidence. Tuition fees:

Total tuition fee is £9,250. If the programme is taken over two years, then the fee payable is £4,625 per year. Payment by instalments is available to students paying their own fees.
