A rational approach to the development of treatments for current and emerging threats to human wellbeing depends upon a sound knowledge of human health and disease.

Biomedicine is at the interface between molecular, cell and integrative biology and evolving disease therapies, while biomedical research is pivotal in transferring advances in basic science into both effective practices that promote human health and treatments for human diseases. Our BSc Biomedicine will provide you with the knowledge and skills for participation in the biomedical community, either professionally or personally.

This programme is also available for full-time evening study over three years and part-time evening study over four years.

This programme is accredited* by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).

About this course

Graduates can pursue careers in scientific research, public health or the health sector more generally. This degree may also be useful in becoming a biomedical scientist, healthcare scientist, medical research scientist or microbiologist.

Course programme

COURSE STRUCTURE

The BSc Biomedicine is composed of compulsory modules studied at Levels 4, 5 and 6 to a total of 360 credits. You complete 60 credits per year. Modules are worth 15, 30 or 60 credits each.

In each of Years 1 to 4, you take four modules, each worth 15 credits.

In Year 5, you take one module worth 30 credits and two worth 15 credits.

In Year 6, you complete a 60-credit specialist laboratory research project.

All modules have online support via our online learning environment.
