Course programme

This is a four-year degree schemes that is inter-disciplinary in nature, with a European focus throughout. This degree scheme includes intensive study in Spanish. Language study in the Department of European Languages constitutes one-third of the degree scheme. The remainder of the degree scheme is made up of core modules in European Politics, plus a wide range of optional modules offered by departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Arts. This enables you to learn more about the aspects of Europe that most interest you. As an integral part of this European Studies with Spanish degree, you will spend one academic year (normally the third year of your degree) abroad at one of our partner universities, studying in their specialist foreign language.

Degree Structure

Year One

During their first year (known as ‘Part One') students are introduced to the study of European Politics and to some of the major areas of the discipline. Students take an equivalent number of modules in their chosen language.

Year Three

Students spend year three abroad.

Years Two and Four

During their either their second or final year students are required to take the core module for their degree scheme.

In their final year students can choose to do a 12,000-word dissertation on a topic related to their chosen degree scheme.

In addition to these core elements, students take up to five optional modules from the Department of International Politics and an equivalent number from the Department of European Languages over years two and four. The range of International Politics options on offer changes from year to year.
