Course description
The course is aimed at experienced registered nurses who wish to specialise in the growing area of district nursing.
The course is 50% theory and 50% practice, ensuring inter-professional learning and the opportunity to work alongside other statutory agencies and voluntary organisations.
The full time course is over 44 weeks and starts in September, the part time course is typically over 2 years. 100% attendance is required with allocated annual leave across the academic timetable.
As a student you develop specialist skills in the field of district nursing, equipping you to lead and manage multi-professional teams in an integrated setting, providing personalised care, empowering service users and promoting self-care.
You enhance and develop your leadership skills and foster excellence in practice, through the development of detailed knowledge and evidence based care, in order to meet the NMC (2001) Standards for Specialist Practice.
You develop personal resilience as an autonomous and independent decision maker, caring for people in their own homes and other environments, in situations that are often complex and unpredictable.
Service users, students, practice teachers and lecturers all contribute to your ongoing development during this course. This broad contribution helps enhance the course content and apply theory to practice. When it comes to putting your learning into practice, you benefit from strong partnerships with health, statutory agencies and voluntary organisations in the region. You have the opportunity to negotiate and organise an alternative placement to enhance your learning experience.
You develop specialist skills and the ability to exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision making to meet the complex needs of the changing healthcare environment and be sufficiently flexible to be employable by a range of organisations.
