Adult nursing is a rewarding and challenging career, enabling you to make a real difference to people's lives. You will work with adults of all ages, who may have one or more long or short-term physical/mental health conditions.

These could include:

heart disease
arthritis
dementia
diabetes
cancer
injuries (caused by an accident, for example).
As a student studying adult nursing you will achieve a BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) and become registered as an adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Applicants are required to complete an enhanced occupational health assessment to ensure that you are occupationally fit to work in the health and social care setting.

About this course

You’ll learn how to observe patients and assess their physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs. You’ll develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to plan and deliver the most appropriate care for them (underpinned by current research findings) and evaluate the results, in both hospital and out of hospital settings.

You’ll learn how to help people stay independent and maximise their wellbeing, improving their health outcomes and also care for people as they reach the end of their lives. A significant part of your learning will focus on communicating with compassion and building relationships with patients, their carers and families, to provide a positive care experience. Your aim will be to improve patients’ quality of life and deliver high quality care.

You’ll need to take account of many factors that impact on the patient and work to get the best possible outcomes for your patients. This will include working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, for example with: Doctors, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Social Workers. This exciting course will also allow you to develop a broad range of skills including, teaching, clinical decision making, leadership management and professionalism. Finally, you’ll reflect the values of the NHS Constitution and the 6 Cs: care, compassion, competence, communication, courage & commitment in the work you do as a nurse.
